In Baltimore, many of our neighbors struggle with food insecurity, not knowing where their next meal will come from. In an effort to support those facing food insecurity, Ellin & Tucker’s Giving Back Committee (GBC) hosted two volunteer events this summer partnering with organizations that are working to eliminate hunger in Baltimore and beyond: Maryland Food Bank and First Fruits Farm.

To kick off summer, the GBC held a volunteer event in June at Maryland Food Bank’s Baltimore warehouse. E&T volunteers spent a Thursday afternoon boxing pre-sorted dry goods—everything from snacks to pasta to cleaning supplies. Maryland Food Bank is a hunger-relief organization at the forefront of the movement to end hunger throughout Maryland. In 2023, they distributed enough food to provide more than 41 million meals. The boxes our volunteers packed were shipped to the food bank’s distributors and on to folks experiencing food insecurity across the state.

The next GBC summer volunteer event was held at First Fruits Farm in northern Baltimore County. Our summer interns came together with other E&T volunteers in July to help harvest watermelon. First Fruits Farm is a not-for-profit ministry dedicated to providing fresh, nutritious produce to those experiencing hunger in the Mid-Atlantic region. Annually, they grow between 2 and 2 ½ million pounds of produce. Their main produce includes potatoes, sweet corn, snap beans, cabbage, zucchini, and tomatoes. They partner with other organizations in the area, including Maryland Food Bank, to distribute their produce to those in need.

Ellin & Tucker is proud to support Maryland Food Bank and First Fruits Farm and the incredible work that they do to fight food insecurity. We encourage everyone to take time to learn about both of these not-for-profit organizations and how you can support their missions.
